April: That's a great point. Thank you. We agree that the focus needs to be on the health and survival of these kids -- not on bashing their mom. Perhaps we need to back off, but I think that moms everywhere are concerned about those babies.

I'll tell you what bothers me the most. Is the thought of her children reading some of the vile and venom that's been said across the internet about their mother...all in the name of the children.
I don't know how I could raise my two daughters in these circumstances, let alone 14. If people are so concerned about these children, then they need to back off.

Clearly, this strikes a nerve for all of you -- just as it does for us.

We really appreciate all of your honest thoughts!

How about the rest of you?

I wasn't really that interested until Dr Phil played background noise in my living room the past couple of nights.

Now I can say that woman is a fruitcake who makes me wanna bitch slap her!

She appears to live in such denial. How could she be that out of touch with reality? The only thing I think I agreed with her on was when she told her mother they "couldn't ask people to get them a house."

That being said...I do not think a woman should ever be denied the freedom of choice. To do that would open up a whole can of worms that could have far reaching implications for the rest of us. It was her choice to implant that many embryos (hope I've got the words right).

Dr Phil said as much as we wanted to hate on Nadya, we had to think about the babies and then offered a way for people to contribute her! Not happening. That is when I hollered at Phil.

With Nadya's choice comes responsibility. Let her take her babies home and prove, or shall I say disprove herself? I'd ask Protective Services to vigilantly monitor the situation and predict/suggest the following:

In a few months, Protective Services can find 7 families that want additions to their family and can provide for them. Then in sets of two, pluck those children out of her care and send them off to a better future.

That would be a win/win. For the children, who would always have one biological sibling with them, for the potential parents with arms that yearn for children and the means to care for them, and for the state who would not be supporting and worrying about and checking up on them.

Oh...and it would also send a clear message to any other crazy woman who thought doing such a thing would bring her fifteen minutes of fame and a happily ever after provided for by the citizens of our great country of choice.

This shit goes on all the time. Why does it have to be extreme before we notice it? There are many, many, many children who are suffering because they have parents who think they can take care of kids when they can't. And what happens to the kids? They grow up with their own challenges and have the same chances as anyone to turn out fine. And everyone complaining about having to spend their tax dollars to take care of this idiotic woman? We've been doing it for years. For many idiotic women. What's new?

It's like a car accident; you want to look away but you can't. The media makes it pretty hard to ignore too, but this woman does have a screw loose. Where is DCFS? Why aren't they stepping in with an investigation? How many other parents get their kids taken away that are actually trying to put the kids first? Nadya doesn't appear to be at all; from conception to birth these children are all about Nadya. It's appalling.

I, too, am captivated by the Octo Mom stories. Here's my take on the whole thing.
Surely she is out of touch with reality on several levels. I am a single woman with a full time job and I am struggling to afford the adoption of my first child. She can't provide for even one of her children alone, let alone all of them. Her family will be in turmoil and jeopardy for years to come.
But enough, already! What's done is done. The woman has some sort of a mental "problem". Continuing to crucify her is only going to make this situation so much worse. Now we need to step in and provide her children with as much safety and stability as possible. If we just sit back and watch her self destruct, we have all failed her children.
It takes a village...
