Is Kate on her way to singlemommyhood?

Yes, I admit it: I watch Jon and Kate Plus 8.
For those of you who have been doing more productive things in the evening, this is a TLC reality show featuring Jon and Kate Gosselin, who are raising one set of twins and sextuplets. (Hey, even the Sanity Fairy ™ needs a break every so often!)
Kate is the super-organized, highly directive, and opinionated “boss” of the family. Jon is the hapless husband who apparently has stopped any pretense of employment.
Jon basically follows Kate’s directions and exerts very little authority in the household. Kate has been accused of belittling him. Kate has quit her career as a nurse.
Basically, the antics of the the kids support the family and make it possible for them to live in a swanky new house and enjoy fabulous family jaunts and fantasy vacations. Kate is now doing a lot of media work, which means that she travels away from home a lot. Obviously, the Gosselins have lots of paid help behind the scenes to assist with childcare and household chores.
The final episode of Season 4 of Jon & Kate Plus 8, however, has ignited the blogosphere. Kate previously told viewers that she and Jon are having some challenges, which they are attempting to work through. Jon, looking uncomfortable with his face tilted away from the camera, mumbled a not so convincing response. Jon apparently feels he has lost his personal identity as “Jon” and now is just part of the “Jon and Kate Plus 8″ package.
Clearly, Kate is likely upset about the photo of Jon, taken at a bar with several flirty college girls, which has been plastered over the Internet along with rumors that he was observed making out and dirty dancing. Rumors are also flying that Jon has moved in with his mother who lives not far from Jon and Kate’s new digs. The show took pains to tell viewers that Jon was caring for his mother who reportedly broke her foot.
Reportedly, Jon spent Valentine’s Day away from Kate.
Jon has reportedly been overheard saying, “We might be getting a divorce.”
TLC didn’t catch any of Jon’s alleged antics on camera.

I think it’s all a bunch of BS. There are so many people that WANT them to break-up because they’re jealous of all that is Jon & Kate + 8. I don’t believe the hype for one second.
I’ve never watched the show and know nothing about it other than what you just wrote, but it seems to me that if the show is getting in the way of the marriage, the show needs to go, not the other way around. I can only imagine how stressful it must be having 8 children so young and I’m sure that the TV show is paying the family’s bills right now. But living in a fishbowl like that is also stressful so maybe as a couple they need to take a look at their alternatives. Either way, I don’t see how speculation and gossip can possibly help the situation. I think the best thing that “we” as the public can do is to have a little respect and give them some space to figure this out on their own. Did that come out right?

Wondermom: If you said what you meant, it definitely came out right! I’m fascinated (occupational hazard – no doubt) with a family raising their kids in a fish bowl. After having made that choice, I wonder if they have the alternative of retreating to a more private life?
Monica: I thought the same thing . . .is this just hype for Season 5? Now that the kids will all be in school and life at home won’t be quite so chaotic. We’ll see (if we care). Obviously, lots of people are as disinterested.

I don’t think it’s going to happen. My 8-yr-old loves this show, so I endure it every now and then. I only saw the last few minutes of last night’s episode, and didn’t know about the photo or anything. I think it’s possible they won’t be back for another season, but I don’t see them splitting up the family. I do hope Kate stops nagging him as much as she does. I know what a deadbeat looks like. Jon is NOT a deadbeat and she needs to start appreciating what she has. The only thing that makes me crazier than deadbeats are wives who don’t appreciate GOOD husband/fathers.

Drama sells reality TV at every level. With out drama.. you would change the channel. Now there’s a buzz about the show and ratings will climb.
If they are divorcing.. it will add to their drama.

I hate gossip about people getting divorced. Now that I’m on the flip-side, it’s really vulgar to me. I have a colleague who is going through this now, and when my friends told me, there was almost glee in their eyes. I was just sad for her. I understand this is a little different because they chose to make their lives so public, but it still makes me sad.
I can’t imagine they would be getting divorced. I think that having cameras around constantly would get very stressful, and likely he is just trying to get away from all of that!
