A day to do all the things I never have time for.
Time to…take a cat nap.
…Play with my puppy.
…Bake several batches of cookies.
…Go running.
…Actually get started on my book.
…Call all the family and friends I always mean to.
…Spend as much time in the pool as I pleased.
…Make margaritas.
…Play monopoly, poker, and uno, and other such things.
…Think.
A whole afternoon to myself! I would bust out the sewing projects that clutter my craft table.
Or maybe…actually make a project with the PMC3 clay I bought a year ago and have never opened.
A book.
A bath.
A Nap.
Some Crafts.
…oooh, a book and a visit to my favorite cafe, sans children.
What to choose!
Lucky for me, I have a pretty active 12 year old who is always off at sleepovers, parties, etc. so other than having to be a chauffer, I’ve been getting a good bit of me time lately.
I like to catch up on my DVRd TV shows, surf the net, or read a book. Or maybe take a nap.
If I had one afternoon to myself I would camp out in front of the television with my feet up on the ottoman watching Turner Classic movies all day. I’d be switching between TCM and Columbo/Matlock!LOL I’d have the remote in one hand and a pint of Blue Bell Moolenium Crunc in the other!
Nap ranks high on my list.
Then maybe enjoy a piece of cheesecake all to myself!
Another nap.
Sewing and painting for pleasure – while listening to bad 80s music that I love but get mocked for.
Watch House M.D. reruns.
Indulge in some outdoor nature photography.
A hot bath with candles and a glass of white wine, and lots of lotion.
A fluffy robe, a good book, another glass of wine.
End the day by sleeping naked on the good cotton sheets.
I would transform my bathroom into a mini spa with lighted candles and soft music.
I would start with a warm.Lavender scented bubble bath.
After the bath I would just sit and relax for a while wrapped up in a big soft towel.
I would then massage scented Lavender oil all over my body.
I would then polish my nails and fingernails after cleaning and filing.
I would then continue to relax by reading a book or watching a movie and drink a cup of hot green tea with honey and lemon.
Thank you!

Doesn’t each and every possible choice sound delightful?
Kendall: What kind of book do you want to write?
Angie: What is PMC3 clay?
Kelly: I was buried in laundry when my kids were 12–Good for you! You just can’t beat a nap.
Heidi: Cheese cake does it for me, too.
Janet F: You’ve really got this whole free afternoon figured out!
Hmmm–lavender. Nothing else is so relaxing!
Nap, Read, Go shoe shopping. It’s really hard to buy the right pair of shoes with a 6yo tagging along…
If money were no object, I would get a massage, too.
Go to Vegas… What?! It’s only a 5 hour drive. I could make it back by morning
(Naw, I probably would just waste it taking a bath or going out to dinner with a good book and a glass of wine but that’s boring. Isn’t it amazing how when we become parents our idea of a good evening changes drastically?!)

Gosh, a whole day to myself !! Lets assume that my house is clean and my bills are paid. In that case, I would turn my phone, pda, laptop off. Rent some recent movies that I have not been able to see at the theater. Curl up on my sofa and watch at least two. Order chinese food. Answer the door in my pjs.
Once the movies are over, I would give myself a pedicure and manicure. Attempt to give myself a facial and pluck my eyebrows.
Then I would get in bed and read all of the tabloid magazines that I have subscriptions to, but cant seem to find the time to sit down and read.
Finally I would go to bed feeling GUILT about doing all of these things are myself !!! Never-ending story of a single mom !!

Its late !! I meant to say guilty… Finally I would go to bed feeling GUILTY about doing all of these things are myself !!! Never-ending story of a single mom !!
With a 4-year old and 2-year old, I’m lucky to get time to go to the bathroom alone…I’m not sure what I’d do with a whole afternoon to myself! If money were no object, I’d probably go for a nice deep tissue massage followed by a manicure and pedicure just for fun. Whatever time I had left I’d spend curled up in one of the big comfy chairs at the bookstore (probably browsing parenting books, but hey, it’s a start!)
Otherwise, I’d love to pack a picnic lunch, hop on my bike, and head up the Silver Comet Trail for an afternoon communing with nature. Just sitting in the shade listening to the wind in the trees does wonders to clear your head!
Single dads like candles too… LOL An afternoon alone, such a dream…

I’d do nothing!
Goodness, my whole life is about doing something—getting to work on time, working very hard, making sure my daughter is fed and looks clean (so I won’t get that nasty glare from people), cleaning the house, making sure my daughter’s homework is done, put her to bed on time to nourish her precious brain so she can excel in math, oh, yeah, and me, get myself in bed and the the cycle continues.
So, an afternoon all to myself–I’d do nothing! Just sit there and stare out the window facing the foothills!
Wondermom: Every possibility sounds delightful! We hope that the New Year brings opportunity for free time so each of your “wishes” comes true!
Vinnie: Bet there’s more on your “like list” than candles . . .LOL
Amy: Been there and done that . . .always doing something. I tried (and it worked!) setting a timer for five minutes and letting my kids know that this was “my time”. Most “five minutes” were spent just loving the quiet, staring out a window, or just sitting on the couch taking deep breaths, but it worked for me!
Happy New Year to All!
