Father’s Day giveaway!

book-of-dads

After brainstorming about what to give you for Father’s Day at Singlemommyhood, we shot down the patterned ties and golf clubs.

Instead, we came up with something we hope is even better:

The just-released anthology The Book of Dads: Essays on the Joys, Perils, and Humiliations of Fatherhood, edited by Ben George.

In this book, top writers admit their faults and share their insights about fatherhood with much humor and honesty.

“Being a father is harrowing, life affirming, traumatic, astonishing, and hysterically funny—the totality of which is captured in the irresistible The Book of Dads,” says David Sheff, bestselling author of Beautiful Boy.

The collection includes one of Rachel’s favorite writers, Steve Almond, and his thoughtful essay, “Everyone Into The Bunker: How Obsessive Parenting Became the New Counterculture.”

Ben Fountain writes about “The Night Shift,” about the evenings he spent in the dark with his young children. And Alterndad author Neal Pollack has a hilarious essay about “What I Can Offer.”

Here’s the best part:

Harper Collins is giving away 10 copies. You heard that right: 10 winners!

What do you need to do to enter? Simply answer this question:

If you were going to write a book about dads — anything at all about fatherhood — what would the title be?

Of course, this is contest open to both moms and dads!

What…you got something against patterned ties and golf clubs??

Anyway, the title of my book would be the same as my blog: I Used To Have Hair

Why? Because I used to have hair before my two kids were born…but in the end, I wouldn’t want it any other way.

“Don’t call me ‘Mr. Mom’; my name is ‘Daddy’”

I’m a gourmet cook, I do laundry (even ironing), I know how to buy clothes for my son and my daughter, I know first aid, and my kids say I bake the best birthday cakes in whatever shape and design they want from Winnie the Pooh to Optimus Prime. I’m still their dad and I’m not trying to be mom.

Maybe someday I will write it…

  5. SDMktg: I got a thing for guys who can iron – and bake. Yes! Please do write that book.
